How to clean the microwave: the most effective ways

The microwave is one of the most popular electrical appliances in the kitchen. And no wonder, because it is multifunctional, and even a preschooler can use it. But when it comes to cleaning her surfaces, especially internal ones, many housewives face difficulties.

There are several simple ways to remove such contaminants. All of them are based on the same principle – the creation of a steam “bath” with a so-called trap for the fumes of cleaning products.

The “trap” is created by the stove itself, so the hostess only needs to choose a suitable cleaning solution that will remove pollution.

Four ways to clean your microwave

How to clean a microwave

Method one: using dishwashing detergent

Dishwashing detergent can be used to clean both light and medium soiling.

Wet the sponge, put one or two drops of detergent on it, lather well. Then put the sponge in the microwave and start heating at minimum power (the maximum will burn the sponge!) For 30 seconds. After that, you can clean the internal surfaces.

You can use the cleaner in a different way. Dissolve a small amount in water. Put the container with the solution in the microwave and wait for the solution to boil. Fat deposits will dissolve and can be easily removed with a damp cloth.

Method two: using soda

This method is useful for moderate pollution.

Soda does not have a strong odor and does not contain chemical additives, so this method is well suited for allergy sufferers. Sprinkle the dirty areas of the microwave with baking soda and wet those areas a little. You can also dilute baking soda with water and lubricate greasy stains with a ready-made soda solution. Wait for the fat to dissolve and then wipe with a damp cloth.

Method three: using lemon

It is applied at strong pollution.

Cut the lemon into slices, squeeze the juice out of them and add water to it. Put the peels in the same water and put the container in the stove. Turn on the microwave at full power for 10-15 minutes. After turning off, wait 5 minutes and then wipe the interior surfaces.

Method four: using vinegar

This method is suitable for very persistent, old dirt.

Vinegar fumes give a rather strong smell, so you need to open the window before washing the stove. Mix vinegar with water in a ratio of 1: 1. Heat the solution in the microwave for 5-10 minutes at maximum power. After turning off, do not open the oven for 10 minutes. Then clean the interior surfaces with a damp cloth.

How to get rid of the smell of burning?

Open the stove door and the kitchen window to get the burning smell out. To clean the oven, try the lemon or vinegar method. You can also use a toothpaste with menthol: it will remove the unpleasant odor, and at the same time destroy the bacteria. Milk will help with the smell of burning. Dissolve a teaspoon of sugar in a glass of milk, put the glass in the oven and bring the milk to a boil. Then remove the glass and wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth.

Safety regulations

Do not clean the microwave with abrasive materials and brushes with metal bristles – all this can scratch the enamel. Also avoid products containing strong acids or chlorine.

Do not use solvents or alcohols for cleaning as this may cause electric shock or fire.

As you can see, even a heavily soiled microwave can be washed. However, it is better not to bring the oven to such a state. Try to always cover the dish heated in the oven with a special plastic lid so that the food does not splatter, and then you will have to clean the oven much less often.
